The Busy Report
September 2, 2023
The last couple of weeks have certainly been exciting!
The Funtrak yearly picnic started things off. It was a lovely day and we greatly enjoyed meeting the other members of the club. The kids very obviously had a great time between outside play activities and the train layout in the basement.
We found this N scale club last spring and the way they took to my son and started mentoring him right away made my heart happy. This is the only local club that I've found that has other members who are under ten years old. I'm sure that the patience and generosity of spirit displayed by the adult members of this group is the reason.
Next up was the Hudsonfest at J.R. Junction in Syracuse. We missed the advertised workshops because we couldn't convince our son to leave the large O scale layout that the Central NY Chapter, National Railway Historical Society Inc. O Gauge Model Railroad Group keeps there but we learned a great deal anyway just by talking to the members of the club who were there running the trains.
Then it was time for the Antique Week at Bouckville. We always take at least one day to search for trains at this event. This week we spent two. We usually find a great many deals here but there were almost no model trains to be found this time although we did find a couple of fun toy trains and some train decorations for our tree this mid-winter. We did find one nice HO scale steamie for a good price. We'll be testing it out soon and will let you know whether it runs or not.
We also bought an engine that is in pieces in a plastic bag. That engine will be the subject of its own post in the near future.
So now I think I'll make a cup of tea, put my feet up, and enjoy listening to my son tell me all about what a good time he had at the events.
